House Rent Allowance (HRA) is a salary component given by employer for accommodation expenses. Partially tax-exempt under Section 10(13A) of Income Tax Act.

HRA exemption = Minimum of these 3:
1. Actual HRA received
2. 50% of Basic+DA (Metro) or 40% (Non-Metro)
3. Rent paid - 10% of Basic+DA

Metro cities (50% HRA): Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata.
Non-Metro (40% HRA): All other cities.

For rent up to ₹3,000/month, receipts not mandatory. Above that, rent receipts required. For rent above ₹1L/year, landlord's PAN needed.
